Everything you need to know before an ECG — what it costs, whether it hurts (it does not), how long it takes, and what the result means — with same-visit reading by Dr. N. Praveen Kumar.
Book on WhatsApp Book OnlineIf a doctor has advised an ECG, or you simply want a heart check, it helps to know what to expect. An ECG (electrocardiogram) is one of the quickest, safest and most useful tests in medicine — and at Samiksha Heart & Diabetic Care in Yelahanka, it comes with something a standalone lab cannot give you: a cardiologist reading it and explaining it the same visit.
ECG + cardiologist consultation — the test and an expert reading.
If you want to discuss results or symptoms first.
ECG + 2D Echo + consult for a fuller assessment.
Our view is simple: an ECG number on a printout means little on its own. Bundling it with a consultation for ₹550 means you leave knowing what it actually says about your heart.
An ECG records the small electrical signals that make your heart beat. It can reveal an abnormal rhythm, strain on the heart, evidence of a past or ongoing heart attack, and clues about blood supply to the heart muscle. It is commonly done for chest discomfort, palpitations, breathlessness, before surgery, and as part of a routine check after 40 or in people with diabetes or high blood pressure.
There is almost nothing to do. No fasting is needed. Avoid heavy exercise just beforehand, skip oily skin creams on the chest that day, and wear a top that is easy to open at the front. If you take heart medicines, continue them as usual unless your doctor says otherwise.
A resting ECG is a snapshot. If your symptoms come and go, Dr. Praveen may suggest a TMT (treadmill test) to see the heart under effort, a Holter monitor to record the rhythm over 24 hours, or a 2D Echo to watch the heart pumping. All are available in-house. To understand when heart symptoms need a specialist, read chest pain: when to see a cardiologist.
